Enrolling at our school


The Gap State School is an enrolment managed school.  Further information on the Enrolment Management plan can be found under Catchment Area section of this website enrolment management plan.  To establish the catchment area of an address, please go to the Department of Education catchment map via this link

Prep enrolments are most welcome. The Queensland Government's prep ready reckoner calculator is available to assist in determining when your child is eligible for their preparatory (Prep) year.

Prep 2021 Enrolments

Enrolment forms for Prep 2021 at The Gap State School are now being accepted for children who are eligible to start Prep at the beginning of 2021 and in accordance to the school's enrolment management plan.  

Bookings for enrolment interviews with the Deputy Principal are available now.  Children who are eligible for enrolment in this initial stage of our enrolment process are those who have:

  • primary place of residence in the school's catchment area, or;
  • an older sibling already enrolled at The Gap State School, and;
  • date of birth between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016.

If your child meets the above criteria please send an email to the Enrolment Officer providing the following information:

  • child's name
  • child's date of birth
  • parents' names
  • residential address
  • contact phone number

Supporting documents are required with enrolment forms for new families to the school and are as follows:

  • current proof of residency at the address indicated on the enrolment form
  • One primary source (a current lease agreement, rates notice, or unconditional contract of sale), and
  • One secondary document – a utilities bill (e.g. electricity, gas) showing this same address and parent's / legal guardian's name

We ask that families who would like to enrol their child for Prep and are eligible for enrolment under the enrolment management plan to follow the above steps.

Expressions of interest for families who reside 'out of catchment'

Expressions of interest for families who reside outside the school's catchment area are also accepted.  Families who reside outside the school's catchment area are invited to complete an Expression of Interest Form and email to to  Offers for out of catchment enrolments will be made by the principal, from Term 3 if spaces in Prep allow.

Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee enrolment.  All expressions of interest will be recorded on the school's Expression of Interest list for communications.

Enrolment for Years 1-6

Enrolments are accepted for students whose primary place of residence is inside the school's catchment area.  Please contact the school office to speak with the Enrolment Officer.

Limited spaces are available for students in Years 1-6 for 2021, whose primary place of residence is outside the school's catchment area.
