2019 Maths Tournament
On Monday 9 September, 20 students from TGSS participated in the 2019 Maths Tournament at Albany Hills State School. This event aims to foster an interest in mathematics and creative problem solving by providing intellectual fun in a scholarly environment.
It began with a team event where teams cooperated to solve 10 questions within 45 minutes. The second part of the event was a relay challenge where team members took turns in pairs to solve as many questions as they could in 1 hour.
Four teams of Year 5 and 6 students from TGSS competed against 50 other teams from across the North West District. All of our students worked very hard to solve these highly challenging problems and showed great determination and resilience.
A huge congratulations to Team C (Amelia, Carson, Catriona, Maxine and Saathvika) for taking out 1st place in this event! This is an incredible result and we are very proud of your achievements!
The Maths Olympiad is an interschool team event that aims to introduce students to important mathematical concepts, teach major strategies and develop flexibility and creativity in problem solving.
