QDU Debating is a primary-level debating competition that helps students develop confidence, public speaking skills and their ability to clearly articulate their views within the parameters of official debating practice.
QDU Debating is a voluntary activity that is open to all Year 5 and 6 students. Preparation sessions are conducted at break times throughout the year.

Debating Team Success

We have two debating teams coached by Miss Annie Pope and Miss Lucy Godfrey, supported by Mrs Danika Branford.  These teams are made up of Year 5 and 6 students who train with their coaches during lunch breaks each week.  Preparation time at home is also required and our students regularly demonstrate the qualities of commitment and persistence throughout the preparation and participation in their debates.  Quality preparation gives our students the confidence to do their best. Their resilience was highlighted through their courage to lose with grace and congratulate their competitors after the first debate.
Having a narrow loss for both teams in their first debate, I am pleased to share that they bounced back and both teams won their second round last week.  Their teamwork, public speaking skills and well-developed arguments were outstanding and they received very positive feedback from the adjudicator.  A true team effort worth acknowledging and celebrating.  Congratulations Hugh C, Abigail B, Eila M, Luca L and Harry C, James L, Mia P and Avienda K.
