Every student enrolling at our school has an enrolment interview with their parent and a member of staff, typically the Deputy Principal. This opportunity is our first conversation in getting to know every child and to support parents to understand the demands of the Prep program, our school values and our operating practices reflecting these expectations. The Gap State School has strong links with local pre-school and kindergarten program providers. These partnerships, through conversation and onsite visits, ensure our teachers are familiar with the strengths and needs of our incoming Prep students, from their current early childhood teachers' perspectives.
These partnerships complement our transition program which typically includes an Open day, Parent information evening, two VIP (Visit in Prep) mornings for incoming students and a 'Meet your child's teacher evening' early in the school year.
This investment in time and information gathering supports an informed and supported program of transition for students. It is a feature of our school that is consistently valued and appreciated by parents and teachers. The confident, smooth start to each school year by the prep cohort is testament to the success of this program.
